Should I let my 6 months old son cry-it-out to sleep?

Thats how my 7 month old was until I started the cry it out. It works VERY well but I know many parents hate hearing their baby like that! Does he use a blanky? Thats what got mine to sleep. A croqueted blanket and some lullaby music I kept on all night.
